Frequently
Asked Questions
Do you always have the same line up or do
you use substitutes on a regular basis? We always have
the same line up. Substitutes are only made during our holiday
period. Any substitutes used to replace a band member are close
friends of the band and have been 'stepping into the breech' with
us for many years.
How long have the band been together? The
band was formed in 1966 and have been playing together with the
present line up since 1989.
NB: Watch out for bands that change personnel
often. Groups that have just formed pose the potential for problems
if the group breaks up. This isn't to say that established bands
don't break up, but over half of all bands formed break up before
their first anniversary. The longer they have been together, the
more likely they will be to remain together until your wedding
date.
Will you play any special song that is not
in your repetoire? Off course, its your day.
We can learn a song, given enough notice. This is quite common
with weddings and we can usually oblige.
Do you play requests? Yes, we try
our very best to play what people want to hear, although this
can become challenging at times...
What do you charge for a 'normal' wedding
reception? Not as much as you'd think. Just contact us
and you'll find out how little it costs for a great dance!. There
are no hidden charges. We do require payment at the begining of
the night however. This can be cash (preferably) or cheque.
Do you pay income tax on your earnings?
Oh, yes (unfortunately...)
How long do you take to set up? Our
usual set up takes about 40 minutes, including unloading our 1/4
ton of equipment! Wherever possible we will unload equipment to
an ante-room until the function room is available so as not to
disturb the proceedings.
How long do you play for and how many breaks
do you take?
We are usually on stage for about 4 hours. We will
have a 30 minute break after about 90 minutes or whenever there
is a buffet being served. However the days of playing a 6
hour set for a Friday night wedding are long gone!
How far will you travel? The band
will consider any venue within the Northern highlands. As long
as we get home to bed at a decent hour (we do so much
need our beauty sleep...)
What noise level do you play at? With
our years of experience in music we know how to set our sound
levels to ensure you have a fantastic night but do not go home
with your ears ringing. We suggest older guest sit a little further
back from the stage, however. We don't put music on during our
break as it's nice to have a little bit of quiet during the evening.
Disco's are a lot, lot louder than us too.
My friend is a singer, can she join you
for a couple of numbers? Yes of course! We've done this
before and it's always been great fun and adds a very personal
touch to your wedding. We're more than happy to provide a microphone
for a singer if you wish. If they want to sing something from
our set and obviously have your permission to do so, then we're
happy to oblige.
One of our guests plays guitar a bit, can
he use one of yours during your break? All our vintage
instruments are finely tuned and set up for our individual playing
styles. The scene from Spinal Tap where the film maker is told
'Don't Look at them' is very appropriate here, we think. In layman's
terms - NO.
